Terms of Service

Last updated: July 27, 2026

Effective date: July 27, 2026
Last updated: July 27, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your download, access to, and use of Scholar: Your School Life ("Scholar" or the "App"). Scholar is operated by Amy Lang ("Amy," "we," "us," or "our").

By downloading, purchasing, accessing, or using Scholar, you agree to these Terms and to the Scholar Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

1. Scholar at a Glance

Scholar is a local-first school planning and study app. Depending on the version of the App and the features you choose to use, Scholar may help you:

  • organize classes and class schedules;
  • create and manage assignments, due dates, scheduled dates, estimated durations, notes, and custom events;
  • view a daily schedule and calendar;
  • generate optional Smart Schedule work blocks;
  • create and study flashcard decks;
  • use Quick Quiz and Matching study modes;
  • create notes and drawings on the Study Board;
  • run a Focus Timer;
  • receive local notifications;
  • view supported widgets and Live Activities; and
  • export certain locally stored information.

Scholar is a planning and study tool. It is not a school, teacher, tutor, academic advisor, learning management system, emergency service, or guarantee of any academic result.

2. Eligibility and Students Under the Age of Majority

You may use Scholar only if you can legally agree to these Terms where you live.

If you are under the age at which you may enter into a binding contract:

  • a parent or legal guardian must review and accept these Terms for you;
  • that parent or guardian is responsible for your use of Scholar and any purchases made through the applicable Apple Account; and
  • you should use the App with appropriate parent, guardian, teacher, or school supervision.

Scholar is intended for general student productivity and is not directed exclusively to children under 13 or listed in the App Store's Kids Category. Do not enter information into Scholar that your school, parent, guardian, or applicable law does not permit you to store on your device.

3. Apple App Store Terms and App License

Scholar is distributed through Apple's App Store. The Apple Licensed Application End User License Agreement ("Apple Standard EULA") applies to your license to use the App unless a valid custom end user license agreement is presented through Apple.

Subject to these Terms, the Apple Standard EULA, and Apple's applicable Usage Rules, Amy grants you a limited, personal, nonexclusive, nontransferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to use Scholar on Apple-branded devices that you own or control.

Scholar is licensed, not sold. No ownership interest in the App is transferred to you. You may not:

  • copy, sell, rent, lease, sublicense, redistribute, or commercially exploit Scholar;
  • reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive the source code of Scholar, except where applicable law expressly permits it;
  • bypass, disable, or interfere with purchase validation, feature restrictions, security controls, or technical protections;
  • use Scholar to violate another person's rights or any applicable law; or
  • use the App in a way that interferes with its operation or Apple's services.

Open-source components, if any, remain governed by their applicable licenses.

4. Local-First Operation and No Scholar Account

Scholar currently operates without a Scholar account or Scholar-operated cloud backend. The App stores its ordinary planning and study content locally on your device, subject to your device settings and Apple's operating system behavior.

This means:

  • Amy generally cannot view, retrieve, reset, synchronize, or restore your classes, assignments, decks, cards, Study Board content, settings, or other locally stored content;
  • deleting the App, erasing or losing your device, clearing local data, or losing a device backup may permanently delete your content;
  • there is no Scholar username, password, or server account to recover; and
  • data may not automatically appear on another device unless an Apple feature or an App feature explicitly supports that transfer.

You are responsible for maintaining your device, passcode, Apple Account security, backups, and any exports you wish to keep. Apple may include local app data in device backups according to your Apple and device settings. Amy does not control or guarantee those backups.

5. Your Content

"Your Content" means information you create or enter in Scholar, such as names, profile details, classes, teacher or room information, schedules, assignments, events, notes, drawings, flashcards, deck descriptions, and study responses.

As between you and Amy, you retain any rights you have in Your Content. You give Amy only the limited rights necessary for the App to process, display, organize, and store Your Content locally on your device as requested by you.

Because Scholar is local-first, Amy does not claim a license to publish, sell, advertise against, or train models on Your Content. The App does not provide a public sharing or social posting service.

You are responsible for ensuring that:

  • you have the right to enter and use Your Content;
  • Your Content does not violate another person's privacy, copyright, trademark, or other rights;
  • Your Content does not contain unlawful or harmful material; and
  • you do not store highly sensitive information in Scholar unless you understand and accept the risks of keeping it on your device.

6. Academic Integrity and Appropriate Use

Scholar is designed to support organization and studying, not cheating or academic misconduct. You agree to follow the rules of your school, teacher, testing organization, and applicable law.

You must not use Scholar to:

  • obtain or distribute unauthorized test answers;
  • misrepresent someone else's work as your own;
  • evade school security or assessment rules;
  • harass, threaten, defame, or harm another person; or
  • store or distribute content that you do not have permission to use.

You are responsible for deciding whether use of the App is permitted in a classroom, testing environment, or other school setting.

7. Dates, Schedules, Smart Schedule, and Notifications

Scholar relies on the information you enter and on calculations performed by the App. You are responsible for checking all dates, times, assignments, classes, events, and schedules against the official information provided by your school or teacher.

Smart Schedule

Smart Schedule may create suggested work blocks using locally stored assignment information, estimated durations, school hours, class schedules, and other preferences. Smart Schedule is an automated planning feature. It does not know your actual workload, ability, health, transportation, school changes, or personal obligations.

Smart Schedule suggestions may be incomplete, unavailable, delayed, duplicated, or unsuitable. You remain responsible for reviewing, editing, and following any plan.

Notifications, widgets, and Live Activities

Scholar may request permission to schedule local notifications and display widgets or Live Activities. Delivery and display depend on Apple, iOS, device settings, Focus modes, battery conditions, permissions, available storage, and other factors outside Amy's control.

A notification, widget, Smart Schedule block, calendar marker, or Live Activity is a convenience only. It is not a reliable substitute for checking Scholar, your official school calendar, or your teacher's instructions. Amy is not responsible for a missed deadline, class, event, timer, or reminder.

8. Study Features and Focus Timer

Flashcards, Quick Quiz, Matching, Study Board, progress indicators, mastery labels, review timing, streaks, scores, and similar features are study aids. They may use simplified logic and may not reflect educational research, official grading, or your actual understanding.

Answers and explanations are based on content entered into the App. You are responsible for checking their accuracy. A "learned," "to review," mastery, accuracy, or completion label is an organizational estimate, not a certification of knowledge.

The Focus Timer is a convenience feature. Timers and Live Activities may be paused, delayed, ended, or displayed differently by iOS. Do not rely on the Focus Timer for safety-critical, medical, legal, laboratory, cooking, transportation, or emergency timing.

9. Scholar Pro

Some Scholar features require a paid entitlement called Scholar Pro. The features included in Scholar Pro may include Quick Quiz, Matching, Custom Events, Smart Schedule, Study Board, and other features identified in the App at the time of purchase.

Amy may improve, replace, add, or remove features over time. Any material change remains subject to applicable law and Apple's rules. Purchasing Scholar Pro does not guarantee that every present feature will remain unchanged or available forever.

9.1 Current plan options

The App may offer these United States reference prices:

  • Monthly: $2.99 per month;
  • Yearly: $19.99 per year; and
  • Lifetime: $39.99 as a one-time purchase.

Prices, currencies, taxes, availability, and promotional offers may differ by storefront or change over time. The price and terms shown in Apple's purchase confirmation sheet at the time you buy control your transaction.

9.2 Monthly and yearly subscriptions

Monthly and yearly Scholar Pro plans are auto-renewable subscriptions:

  • payment is charged to your Apple Account when Apple confirms the purchase;
  • the subscription automatically renews at the end of each billing period unless you cancel it through Apple;
  • you may manage or cancel the subscription in your Apple Account subscription settings;
  • cancellation generally takes effect at the end of the current paid billing period;
  • deleting Scholar does not cancel a subscription; and
  • charges already incurred are not automatically refunded when you cancel.

Apple may notify you about renewals, price changes, billing issues, or required consent. Your access may end if a subscription expires, a payment fails, Apple revokes or refunds the transaction, or StoreKit no longer reports an active entitlement.

9.3 Yearly free trial

The yearly plan may include a 14-day free trial for eligible new subscribers. A trial is available only if Apple's purchase sheet presents it to you and Apple determines that you are eligible.

Unless you cancel through Apple before the trial ends, the yearly subscription will automatically begin and Apple will charge the price shown in the purchase sheet. Trial eligibility, duration, conversion, and billing are controlled by Apple and the offer configured in App Store Connect. Amy cannot grant, extend, reset, or guarantee trial eligibility.

9.4 Lifetime purchase

The lifetime option is a non-consumable, one-time purchase. "Lifetime" means access to supported Scholar Pro features for the supported commercial lifetime of Scholar, subject to these Terms, Apple's platform requirements, device compatibility, and continued availability of the App.

"Lifetime" does not mean your lifetime or Amy's lifetime, and it is not a promise that Scholar, every feature, or compatibility with future devices and operating systems will continue indefinitely.

9.5 Restoring purchases

Scholar can ask StoreKit to restore or synchronize eligible purchases associated with your Apple Account. Restoration depends on Apple, your Apple Account, transaction status, product configuration, and platform rules. Amy cannot manually create or transfer an App Store entitlement outside Apple's purchase system.

9.6 Refunds

Apple processes App Store payments and refund requests. Amy does not receive your full payment credentials and generally cannot issue an App Store refund directly. Refund eligibility and decisions are governed by Apple and applicable law. You can use Apple's refund-request service to submit an eligible request.

9.7 Family Sharing

Scholar Pro is shareable through Family Sharing only if the applicable product is configured by Amy and supported by Apple. Do not assume that a purchase is shareable unless Apple presents it as such.

10. Privacy

Scholar's privacy practices are described in the Scholar Privacy Policy, available at:

joinscholar.app/privacy

The Privacy Policy is incorporated into these Terms by reference. In summary, the current App is designed to be local-first and does not require a Scholar account or use a Scholar-operated backend for ordinary app content. Apple may process information independently when providing the App Store, StoreKit, notifications, device backups, widgets, Live Activities, and other platform services.

11. Ownership, Branding, and Artwork

Scholar's software, source code, interface structure, branding, logos, text, and other materials are owned by Amy or used under rights available to her, except for Your Content and third-party materials.

Some bundled illustrations and visual assets were created with generative tools, including OpenAI's ChatGPT, and then selected, arranged, adapted, and integrated into Scholar. These Terms do not claim copyright or other exclusive rights beyond those available under applicable law. Third-party names, technologies, fonts, symbols, and components remain the property of their respective owners.

"Scholar," the Scholar app icon, and associated branding may not be copied or used in a way that suggests endorsement, affiliation, or ownership without permission.

You may use normal screenshots of Scholar for personal, educational, review, or commentary purposes, subject to applicable law. You may not extract, resell, impersonate, or redistribute the App or its asset library as a competing product.

12. Feedback

If you voluntarily send Amy suggestions, ideas, bug reports, or other feedback, you grant Amy a nonexclusive, worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free right to use that feedback to develop, improve, market, and support Scholar without compensation or attribution to you.

This section does not transfer ownership of Your Content stored in the App.

13. Updates, Compatibility, and Changes to the App

Scholar may require updates to continue operating. Amy may release corrections, security improvements, interface changes, new features, or compatibility updates. Apple may also change iOS, StoreKit, notifications, widgets, Live Activities, PencilKit, App Store rules, or other platform behavior.

Amy does not promise that:

  • Scholar will support every device, iOS version, region, language, or accessibility configuration;
  • all features will remain available or identical;
  • an update will be released by a particular date; or
  • the App will always be uninterrupted or error-free.

You are responsible for using a supported device and maintaining compatible software. Continuing to use Scholar after an update may be required for security, purchase validation, or functionality.

14. Suspension, Termination, and Discontinuation

You may stop using Scholar at any time by deleting the App. You may delete local Scholar data using available in-app controls or device settings. Deleting local data may be irreversible.

Your license to use Scholar ends automatically if you materially violate these Terms. Amy may also discontinue the App or a feature, subject to applicable law and Apple's requirements.

Because Scholar has no Scholar-operated user accounts, Amy generally cannot remotely suspend an individual local profile. However, paid feature access may change when StoreKit reports that a subscription or purchase expired, was refunded, was revoked, or is otherwise no longer valid.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including ownership, disclaimers, limitations of liability, dispute terms, and payment obligations already incurred.

15. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Scholar is provided "as is" and "as available." Amy disclaims all warranties and conditions, express, implied, or statutory, including warranties of merchantability, satisfactory quality, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, quiet enjoyment, title, and noninfringement.

Without limiting the above, Amy does not warrant that:

  • Scholar will be uninterrupted, secure, accurate, complete, or error-free;
  • local data will never be lost, corrupted, or deleted;
  • notifications, timers, widgets, Live Activities, schedules, or Smart Schedule blocks will arrive or display correctly;
  • study content, answers, scores, or progress estimates will be accurate; or
  • use of Scholar will improve grades, academic performance, productivity, or wellbeing.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions. In those places, these exclusions apply only to the extent permitted by law, and you retain any non-waivable consumer rights.

16. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Amy will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, missed deadlines, missed classes, lost academic opportunities, lost profits, device issues, or business interruption arising from or related to Scholar.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Amy's total liability for all claims arising from or related to Scholar will not exceed the greater of:

  • the amount you paid for Scholar during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim; or
  • fifty U.S. dollars (US $50).

These limitations apply regardless of the legal theory and even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose. They do not exclude liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for fraud, willful misconduct, or personal injury where applicable law prohibits exclusion.

17. Apple-Specific Acknowledgements

You acknowledge and agree that:

  • these Terms are between you and Amy, not Apple;
  • Apple is not responsible for developing, maintaining, supporting, or providing Scholar;
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support services for Scholar;
  • Apple is not responsible for claims relating to Scholar, including product liability, legal compliance, consumer protection, or intellectual property claims, except as required by applicable law;
  • if Scholar fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple may refund the purchase price, if any, as provided by Apple's policies and applicable law;
  • you must comply with applicable third-party terms when using Scholar;
  • you represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo and are not on a U.S. Government prohibited or restricted party list; and
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are intended third-party beneficiaries of this section and may enforce the provisions that benefit them.

Nothing in these Terms limits rights or obligations imposed by the Apple Standard EULA or applicable law.

18. Third-Party Services

Scholar depends on Apple platform services, which may include the App Store, StoreKit, local notifications, widgets, Live Activities, device backups, PencilKit, and operating system frameworks. Those services are governed by Apple's terms and privacy practices.

Amy is not responsible for Apple's availability, decisions, purchase processing, refunds, subscription eligibility, device backups, or operating system behavior. Links to external sites, if any, are provided for convenience and do not imply endorsement.

19. Governing Law and Disputes

Before filing a formal legal claim, you and Amy agree to try in good faith to resolve the dispute by contacting the other party and allowing 30 days for a response. This informal process is not required where prohibited by law or where urgent injunctive relief is reasonably necessary.

These Terms are governed by the laws of Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except that mandatory consumer protection laws in your place of residence may still apply.

Subject to any non-waivable right to bring a claim elsewhere, disputes arising from these Terms or Scholar will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, and you and Amy consent to their jurisdiction.

The United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.

These Terms do not require individual arbitration and do not waive any class-action right that applicable law gives you.

20. Changes to These Terms

Amy may update these Terms to reflect changes to Scholar, purchases, law, or platform requirements. The updated version will identify a new "Last updated" date and will be made available in the App, on Scholar's website, or through another reasonable method.

If a change materially affects your rights, Amy will provide notice where required by law. Your continued use of Scholar after updated Terms become effective means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not agree, stop using Scholar and cancel any auto-renewable subscription through Apple.

21. Miscellaneous

These Terms, the Scholar Privacy Policy, the Apple Standard EULA, and any purchase terms shown by Apple form the agreement governing your use of Scholar.

If there is a conflict:

  • Apple's purchase confirmation and applicable App Store terms control billing and the transaction;
  • the Apple Standard EULA controls your App Store license where it applies; and
  • these Terms control the relationship between you and Amy to the extent they do not conflict with mandatory law or Apple's controlling terms.

If any provision is found unenforceable, it will be enforced to the greatest extent permitted and the remaining provisions will continue in effect. Amy's failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without Amy's consent. Amy may assign them in connection with a lawful transfer of Scholar or its business.

Headings are for convenience only. The words "including" and "include" mean "including without limitation."
